To the editor: (re: “We do deserve better storefronts,” July 27) I am totally in agreement with Marcia Yerman’s recent letter. I have lived in this area since the early ‘70s, and back then, we had so many wonderful stores. It’s just such a shame now to see so many empty storefronts on Johnson Avenue and West 235th Street. more

To the editor: We recently announced our plan to take down unsightly sidewalk sheds and reclaim our streets. Sidewalk sheds — which many New Yorkers also known as scaffolding — are the ugly green and metal boxes that cover our sidewalks. They block the sunlight, keep pedestrians away from businesses, and are a magnet for illegal activity. more

To the editor: (re: “If a tree falls at Visitation site, will anyone be around to save it?” July 13) Not all that many years ago, a combination apartment building and medical facility was constructed on West 231st Street and Corlear Avenue. A huge sycamore tree was thought to be in the way, and talk of chopping it down went through the neighborhood. more
