To the editor:
I often visit Van Cortlandt Park to hike with others along the aqueduct and Putnam trails, as well as other parts of the park.
This year, on our first outing, I noticed that the clubhouse, where we used to stop for water, the water fountain there is no longer operable, and seems to be decommissioned. Of the three spigots over sinks in the men’s restroom, two do not work, and the third only emits hot water.
Others, besides ourselves — wanting to refill water bottles — were disappointed, the only recourse being the purchase of bottled water at the concession.
Given the parks department’s recent refurbishment of the clubhouse facility, free hydration does not appear to have been a priority.
