Time for construction to end

Posted

To the editor:

It’s now been several months of construction down at the Spuyten Duyvil Metro-North station.

Each day becomes more and more challenging to commute from the station given that construction workers block roads, create massive potholes (which are filled with water), re-route traffic, and worst of all, take up numerous parking spaces reserved for commuters.

Has anyone else had to circle the parking lot at 7 a.m. to get a space? It’s utter chaos, and it’s becoming clear that walking to the train station is the smarter alternative until the work is completed.

One of the most frustrating parts of the construction is getting anyone to care. It took not one, or two, but three calls to Councilman Andrew Cohen’s office to even get someone to respond with a substantive answer on the construction. When I did get an answer, I was told the construction would be done almost two weeks ago. This clearly is not the case.

Hundreds of people must commute through this train station every day, thus I would imagine this impacts a lot of locals who’ve come to rely on their daily drive to the train station with a parking space, or many, waiting for them when they arrive.

In any event, if anyone else has been suffering through this construction in the last few months, you’re certainly not alone. Accurate information is welcomed as to what the construction is about, and when it’ll end.

Until I see some spaces open up, though, I’ll be leaving my car at home.
