Thieves smash a window, snatch wallet

It seems almost inevitable that, in any given week, something bad will happen to at least one car in this part of the Bronx. And a couple of weeks ago was no different.

A 24-year-old told cops he parked his 2016 Toyota Camry on the 2700 block of Reservoir Avenue around 6 p.m., on June 4, returning the next morning to find the rear passenger window smashed and his wallet missing, along with his credit card, Taxi & Limousine Commission license, driver’s license, and a computer tablet police valued at $190.

The grand larceny is still under investigation.

Motorcycle vanishes, found in Manhattan

It’s not just cars that thieves are after, but motorcycles too.

An 18-year-old told cops he parked his 2012 Yamaha, valued by police at around $6,000, on the 3200 block of Corlear Avenue in Kingsbridge on June 13 around 6 p.m., returning a little after midnight only to find it missing. 

Fortunately for the owner, police recovered his bike in Manhattan’s 34th Precinct, which covers Washington Heights and Inwood, north of West 179th Street, although details on exactly when and where they found it are hazy.

No arrests have been made in what cops are calling grand larceny of a motorcycle.

Thief penetrates gate, takes cash

Sometimes, a front gate alone just isn’t enough to ward off thieves.

The 44-year-old owner of the Mei Chung Mei Chinese restaurant at 157 W. 231st St., learned that the hard way. He told cops someone managed to sneak past the front gate of his establishment around 2 a.m., on June 13, and reportedly pilfered around $350.

Police believe the mystery perp took cash from a register.

Thankfully for the owner, his restaurant has security cameras, police said, which could help them pin down the perp.

Early morning attacker arrested

There are probably safer places to be than in front of bars at 5:30 in the morning.

At least one man probably wishes he’d been somewhere else the Monday before last. He told police a guy socked him in the nose and both cheeks when he was standing in front of the Hola España bar at 5586 Broadway around 5:30 a.m., on June 11, reportedly leaving him with a bloody nose, bruised cheeks, and a whole lot of pain.

Emergency workers treated the guy’s injuries while police canvassed the area, finding his 35-year-old attacker, who they arrested and charged with menacing and assault.
