LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Tell me: Will it get cold enough?

To the editor:

I’m back — expect it?  “Hello, again! Is it me you’re lookin’ for?”

I had to reveal at my pool this all-too-fleeting summer that yes, friends, I did get those roosters to vanish. The house folks, too, in a way.

With the help of The Riverdale Press, some recreational and for-rent cars are not on the service road of the parkway — or are they?

But, alas, no I cannot rid the world of lantern flies. Nor wheelies. Nor illegally parked commercial vehicles. Not even cars in the same spot for months when the New York City car storage law says seven-day limit.

I still see bags of dog poop, too many “service” animals and garbage. I am training my now 80-year-old self to look less.

I want to be able to do these things. I do.

I want to right — and write — so many wrongs. But they all happen in spite of me. Things way bigger than me.

Older, too.

So, happy rainy hot end of summertime. I look forward to the beautiful colors of autumn that will come after the first freeze — if there will be a first freeze.  I even welcome snow — which, for a minute, will cover the all-too-filthy streets. If it is cold enough.

And well, you know the rest. Tell me.
