Something's rotten in Riverdale

My wife and I returned to Riverdale Park about two-and-a-half years ago after an absence of roughly 55 years, having lived in Nassau County, Long Island, for that time.

The corrupt politics in Nassau County are legion, hence my senses are keenly attuned to political activity, board decisions, etc., that run counter to the citizens’ best interests.

Then I read of Charles Moerdler’s abrupt resignation from Community Board 8’s land use committee, and read further that the disruptive Netherland Avenue “pedestrian path,” which will significantly impact a key, useful, protective wall structure and neighborhood tranquility to accommodate the wishes of the North Riverdale Merchant and Business Association.

(Their notion, presumably, is that a pedestrian through-way will net them more business/easier deliveries.)

Mr. Moerdler justifiably opposed that modification in the interest of the hundreds of residents who would be negatively impacted by this so-called “improvement.”

Seems to me that there is something “rotten in the state of Denmark” reflected in the narrow CB8 vote for the vehemently opposed resolution. But “damn the people, full speed ahead!”

This play by CB8 is disgraceful, clearly a tool of commercial interests, to what end? Whose benefit? Who suffers?
