Sister Teresa Mary, a life that filled the hearts of so many others

Posted

Sister Teresa Mary of the Society of Helpers, formerly Genevieve Sheehan, died July 7, 2018, in Chicago. She was 91.

She was the daughter of Teresa and Thomas Sheehan, the only girl of nine brothers, growing up on Delafield Avenue. She attended St. Margaret’s grammar school and Manhattanville College.

Prior to entering religious life, she was a teacher. Later, she received her master’s degree in theology from Marquette University in Wisconsin.

A Eucharist celebration of her life takes place Sept. 29 at 1 p.m., at Incarnation Parish, 1290 St. Nicholas Ave., in Manhattan, in the midst of friends she served for 27 years.

It was there she formed 104 teachers for the school of religion, which welcomed more than 2,000 students. Here, she continues to live in the hearts of generations of families who knew how much she loved them.

They, together with her 20 nieces and nephews and their families, welcome all to our thanksgiving of sharing stories of how Teresa impacted their lives.
