Robert Donald Hill of Sleepy Hollow and Pilot Knob — and formerly of Irvington — died peacefully on Aug. 22, 2017, at Kendal-on-Hudson in Sleepy Hollow, following complications from a fall.

He was born in the Bronx on April 23, 1928, the son of the late Robert Edwards Hill and Evelyn Robertson Hill.

He grew up in Riverdale and was educated at The Barnard School for Boys in 1945, and then at Dartmouth College in 1949.

He married Virginia Hayes in 1951. Following her death in 2004, he married Marilyn Eager in 2005.

From 1952 to 1954, he served on active duty in the U.S. Naval Reserve as an office — lieutenant (junior grade) — aboard the USS Parle (DE 708).

Following his naval service, he joined his father’s real estate firm, Robert E. Hill Inc., in Riverdale. At the time of his retirement in 1991, he was president of the firm.

He was a member of the Real Estate Board of the Bronx, Peter Minuit Post No. 1247 of the American Legion (of which he was commander from 1969 to 1970), and the St. Andrew’s Society of the State of New York.

He was a member of the Ardsley Country Club in Irvington, and the Glens Falls Country Club of Glens Falls. He also was a member of the Ardsley Curling Club in Irvington for many years, serving on its board as director, treasurer, president and editor of the club’s newsletter, Duck Soup.

He enjoyed curling, sailing, reading, skiing, oysters, back rubs, singing, waterskiing, and spending time with family at West Gilgo Beach, Lake George and Chaumont.

He is survived by three devoted daughters, Cynthia Archer (Pierce) of Villanova, Pennsylvania; Susan Cody of Bronxville; and Elizabeth Hill (Ethan Kende) of Bedford Hills. He also is survived by six loving grandchildren, Catherine and Emily Archer, Gwendolyn and Allyson Cody, and Jacob and Noah Kende; and two stepchildren, Tom Eager and Mary Cline.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Donations can be made to The Lake George Association, P.O. Box 408, Lake George, N.Y., 12845.
