Skyview Owners Corp., sent Community Board 8 and various local politicians and representatives a message in a half-page ad stating the many legitimate reasons they opposed the Hebrew Home continuing care retirement community development project.

Several points made in that ad apply as well to the proposed Netherland Avenue path to prospectively run through Riverdale Park and Netherland Gardens for the presumed benefit of the North Riverdale Merchant and Business Association, by allowing deliveries more directly to Skyview, etc.

Those points include:

• The path will be “incompatible with the character of the area.” Riverdale Park and Netherland Gardens are both quiet, country-like communities with minimal traffic, limited to local residents’ use.

• The plan demonstrates “insensitivity to the neighborhood in … functional and aesthetic ways.”

The expanded roadway would “severely, adversely and permanently impact the essential character of” the two residential developments.

• It would require the destruction of a recently constructed wall and centralized sanitation collection area, thereby significantly increasing the rodent population, posing a health risk to children and adults alike.

• The plan will further reduce the number of limited parking spaces available to residents/shareholders of both properties.

Clearly, the plan is disruptive, and offers no benefit to the hundreds of residents who will be adversely affected.
