Marble Hill instructor wins teaching award

Posted

Jason Garofalo, a math teacher at the Marble Hill School for International Studies, was one of seven recipients of the Sloan Awards for Excellence in Teaching Science and Mathematics.

The award, offered by the Fund for the City of New York, honored Garofalo’s teaching style of creating a collaborative environment where students work together to solve problems while gaining a deeper understanding of the topic. Since many of his students are English language learners, Garofalo focuses more on understanding the logic behind the questions, according to a release.

The award recognizes city public high school teachers who exceed expectations in the classroom to advance student success.

The Ford Foundation created the Fund for the City of New York in 1968.
