BRONX, NY – Public relations students Alyse Kassa and Christina Bahnatka have teamed up with Manhattan College Education honor society Kappa Delta Pi to collect hundreds of school supplies for a local elementary school in the South Bronx, P.S. 294.

On November 20th at 11a.m. public relations students will drop off the collected school supplies to P.S. 294 at 1425 Walton Ave, Bronx, NY, 10452. Without the supplies needed to learn, teachers are at a standstill, and standardized test grades are at an all time low. The Bronx community needs to be aware about the importance of elementary education as a foundation for the future.

The principal of P.S. 294, Daniel Russo, is a Manhattan College alumnus along with many other teachers at the local elementary school. Daniel Russo still teaches some education graduate courses at Manhattan College. Since this is his first year as the principal of the elementary school, Russo is trying his best for his students to succeed. With help from Manhattan College, Russo potentially can give his students the resources they need to improve and succeed.

About P.S. 294

P.S. 294 opened for the first time in September 2013. They are a “phase in” school in District 9 and are trying to gain the resources to expand. Currently the school has enrolled almost three hundred children in kindergarten, first grade, and second grade, but in the upcoming years have plans to add more.
