LEARN HOW TO SHOW YOUR HARDWORKING STREET TREES SOME LOVE

Posted

Throughout 2018, The Green-Wood Cemetery is partnering with Trees New York on a major environmental justice initiative in Sunset Park to strengthen the neighborhood’s street trees.

In a community that has seen significant environmental challenges – exhaust from the Gowanus Expressway, industrial emissions, and more – street trees are key partners in building a healthy neighborhood. As nature’s miracle workers, street trees intercept and absorb storm water runoff, provide oxygen, fight climate change, and provide shade and cooling.

Join fellow environmentalists to help remove litter and weeds from tree beds, cultivate the soil, and provide water and mulch for street trees in the local community. Horticulture staff from Green-Wood and experts from Trees New York will be on hand to lead the event.

Funding for this project is provided by the NYS Environmental Protection Fund as administered by the Environmental Justice Community Impact Grant Program of the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation.

Not at Green-Wood. Meet on the corner of 42nd Street and Ninth Avenue in Brooklyn. By subway, take the D train to the Ninth Avenue station.

This event is free. Reservations are recommended. To make an online reservation or to find out more information, visit www.treesny.org or call 718-210-3080.
