LaGuardia's Fieldston home on market

Posted

The 5,000-square-foot home that once belonged to former mayor Fiorello LaGuardia is on the market for the first time in four decades.

The Tudor, located at 5020 Goodridge Ave., is listed for $3.5 million through Douglas Elliman and Robert E. Hill — well above the $40,000 (or $560,000 in today’s money) the mayor bought the house for in 1945, according to Mansion Global.

LaGuardia only lived in the home for two years, dying there of pancreatic cancer in 1947.

The home, according to its listing agents, was built in 1915, and features eight bedrooms and six bathrooms. Both the living room and library have wood-burning fireplaces, and the formal dining room overlooks the garden.

A two-car garage was added in 1929, designed by Dwight James Baum, the architect behind some of the earliest residences of Temple Terrace, Florida, as well as the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art in Sarasota, Florida.

New additions this week to Press staff

This week, The Riverdale Press welcomes a new sales account executive — Robert Nilva.

Nilva brings with him more than 30 years of advertising experience, most recently serving as marketing director for the Riverdale Review.

A graduate of the Bronx High School of Science as well as Lehman College, Nilva, his wife Sheila and son Zach are longtime Riverdale residents. Sheila had served on the Riverdale Community Center board of directors for many years, while Zach is a fourth-grade teacher. Nilva had coached in South Riverdale Little League for more than a decade.

Also joining the staff is a new summer intern for the editorial department, Lauren Schuster.

Schuster is an undergrad student at Manhattan College, studying communications with a concentration in journalism. She also is minoring in English, and women and gender studies.

She was born and raised in Scranton, Pennsylvania, but grew up with a strong love for New York City.

Schuster is the assistant features editor at The Quadrangle, the student newspaper of Manhattan College. She also writes for Lotus magazine, the women’s lifestyle publication of the school.

In the future, Schuster hopes to continue writing about art and culture, especially on the topic of fashion.
