KHCC is ready for summer, are you?

The Kingsbridge Heights Community Center is gearing up for sunshine and warm weather, and is inviting the community to join. Or rather, register.

Kids from kindergarten to fifth grade can take part in KHCC’s summer program, set to take place between July 1 and Aug. 23. A summer program for older students up through eighth grade also is available by calling (718) 884-0700, Ext. 100.

Summer session activities at the 3101 Kingsbridge Terrace center include lunch, snacks, robotics, gardening, theatre and dance programs. Students also have a chance to explore arts and crafts, play sports, and participate in games. There also are planned field trips also included.

The first session begins July 1 with the second session set for July 29. Costs range from just under $1,400 to $2,750.

Lehman invites teens
for musical brawl

High school students who feel they have the right stuff when it comes to playing woodwinds, brass and percussion instruments are invited to Lehman College on March 22 for the 18th annual Jerome G. Sala Memorial Concerto competition.

Teens from all over the region will be welcomed to the 250 Bedford Park campus with classical instruments in tow for a chance to win $500 and an opportunity to perform a piece with the Lehman College and Community Band in May.

Young musicians have until March 15 to sign up for the competition.

Manhattan College
provides tax services

Give up on trying to figure out your taxes? Maybe it’s time to let a Manhattan College student try.

The school is offering free help every Wednesday and Saturday though April 10 at the Northwest Bronx Resource Center at Refugee House, 2715 Bainbridge Ave. Hours run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

This is the 10th year Manhattan College have worked with the University Neighborhood Housing Program.

All student volunteers take an IRS certification course.

Author comes uptown to unpack Holocaust history

New York University author and professor Hasia Diner will journey uptown to Manhattan College to discuss the history of the Holocaust.

Diner wrote “We Remember With Reverence and Love: American Jews and the Myth of Silence After the Holocaust, 1945-1962,” and teaches American Jewish history and Hebrew.

The book discussion involving Diner is set for March 26 at 7 p.m., at 4513 Manhattan College Parkway, in Room 5C of Kelly Commons.
