(re: “Let the voters be heard,” July 11)

A recent editorial advocated an “open primary” system in New York State, wherein all registered voters would be able to vote in any primary of their choosing as opposed to the current system that permits only registered Democrats to vote in the Democratic primary, only registered Republicans to vote in a Republican primary, etc.

My view is that the registered Democrats are effectively a “socio-political” family who are entitled to choose the person whom the family would like to represent them in the election.

It is simply no one else’s business who that person is. No Republican, independent, Green Party member or Libertarian should be able to dictate by ballot whom we should run in the general election, likely voting for the person they see as the “weaker candidate.”

They may or may not have their own primaries. So be it. Yes, the Bronx is basically a Democratic stronghold. And that’s the way it is.
