Honda scene of vanishing wallets

Posted

A 26-year-old woman told police she parked her gray 2013 Honda Accord on the 5400 block of Netherland Avenue around 1 a.m., on Aug. 11, returning around 7 a.m., to find someone had snatched up a pair of wallets — valued by police at $500 — she’d left inside, along with credit cards and several IDs.

There was no obvious damage to any part of the Honda, including the steering column or the ignition, police said, but the woman may have forgotten to lock her doors.

Police are looking into the grand larceny.

Would-be beach mobile whisked away

Summer weekends are a good time to hop in the car and hit the beach.

One unlucky urban driver may have been planning just such an escape — until her car disappeared.

A 46-year-old woman told police she parked her white 2015 Toyota Camry in her Riverdale Avenue driveway near West 234th Street around 10 p.m., on Aug. 8, but it was gone the following morning.

There was no broken glass to suggest a break-in, police said, and thanks to a lack of surveillance cameras in the neighborhood, they’re short on clues, although the owner reportedly left a spare key inside the car.

Along with the car itself — which police valued at $30,000 — also taken was an Apple Watch, four beach chairs, and a Bluetooth speaker — all worth about $500.

Honda entered, tools taken near Vannie

A 54-year-old man told police he parked his 2013 Honda Civic on the 200 block of West 259th Street in North Riverdale in the early morning hours of Aug. 28, returning around 1:30 the next afternoon to find someone had broken in. They reportedly snatched various tools including a drill, hammer, several blades, a nailer, and the man’s cell phone.

Police valued the stolen items at more than $1,500.

Footage from security cameras mounted at a nearby building shows a man police described as around 5-foot-10 and 180 pounds entering the car through the front passenger-side door.

Police are investigating the grand larceny.
