Elizabeth Schulz died April 27, 2019, at her home in Riverdale after a courageous struggle with cancer. She was 67.

She was born April 23 in New York City. Her parents, Eva and John Schulz, both immigrated to the United States in the 1930s.

Alumna of Buck’s Rock Work Camp; The Fieldston School; Bennington College, where she earned her bachelor’s in comparative literature; and New York University, where she earned her MBA. Her 28-year career in business included vice president at Prudential Insurance Co., and portfolio manager at TIAA-CREF.

In 2006, she and Terry Roche — her partner of many years — moved into the Riverdale home where she had grown up. In August 2008, the two were married. In the following years, she was a caring and near-constant companion for her ailing mother.

She was a talented craftsperson, making beautiful quilts and other unique creations of her own design. An enthusiastic equestrian, she loved spending her days with her horses Perfect Gentleman, and then Jack. The cats she and Terry adopted over the years were an important part of the household.

She was an active supporter of causes she valued, serving on the boards of Bennington College, Riverdale Neighborhood House, and RSS-Riverdale Senior Services.

She is survived by her spouse Terry; sister Kate Benison and her wife Diane of Plymouth, Massachusetts; her brother Andy Schulz and his wife Mauri Small of Austin, Texas; and her beloved nephew Will Schulz of Princeton, New Jersey, for whom she was a constant champion and soulmate.

The family extends its heartfelt thanks to her lifelong friend Francie Camper and her aide, Cynthia Hall, for their loving care in her final months.

A memorial service will be held at the Riverdale-Yonkers Society for Ethical Culture on June 1 at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Riverdale Senior Services and VNSNY Hospice and Palliative Care.
