LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

Engel needs to prove innocence

To the editor:

Is U.S. Rep. Eliot Engel were to be held to the same reprehensible and unconstitutional rules and conditions to which the Democrats and their allies in the media are holding Judge Kavanaugh, then I would accuse the congressman (unless he can prove himself innocent) of being a sexual predator, possibly even a rapist.

On Jan. 11, 2018, The Riverdale Press published my letter, “The slimy slush fund of Congress,” which had to do with (as I wrote in my letter) “A particular fact that came out regarding congress that I am sure most of us had no knowledge of, and that is that these scumbag legislators have at their disposal, a slush fund of taxpayer money (our money) to pay off sexual harassment complaints.”

At the time I wrote the letter, more than $17 million had been paid out by the Congressional Office of Compliance, which was the agency created in 1995 to resolve labor and other disputes, including sexual harassment complaints, brought by congressional staffers against lawmakers.

I wrote at that time “$17 million is a hell of a lot of money, and I think the public is entitled to know the names of which legislators over the years have made use of this fund, for what particular purpose, and how much of our hard-earned money was spent by each legislator.”

I continued, “U.S. Rep. Eliot Engel has been in office since the slimy slush fund came into existence.

He probably voted for it (the Congressional Accountability Act). If he didn’t, he can tell us so.”

“The question is, ‘Did Mr. Engel benefit from it?’ The only way to find out is to get an accounting of the $17 million.

I then suggested that Congressman Engel introduce a bill requiring such an accounting which, if he were innocent, would clear his name.

He wouldn’t even need the FBI to conduct an investigation. The information is already there.

Since Eliot Engel to this date has not provided proof that he is not one of these scumbag, lowlife legislators who made use of that $17 million to pay off (and silence) their accusers, he now stands convicted in the court of public opinion of being a sexual predator — possibly a rapist.

Unlike Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh, who has no means of defending himself, Congressman Engel does. The fact that he hasn’t defended himself shows just how guilty the congressman, the would-be chairman of the House Foreign Affairs committee, is.

Politics is not a one-way street. What goes around, comes around.
