Elderly man in stable condition after slashing attack

Police are looking for a man they believed attacked a senior citizen lack week near Exterior Street and West 225th Street.

The 62-year-old was walking into his residence just before 10 p.m., on April 8, when he was reportedly approached by a larger-framed man who started arguing with him. Words turned to violence, according to the New York Police Department's 50th Precinct, when the younger man allegedly pulled a knife and slashed the senior in his head, face and neck causing severe lacerations.

The man — described as black, between 30 and 40, with a heavy build and wearing all dark clothing — then ran off, leaving his victim on the ground. The unidentified elderly man was taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi on Pelham Parkway South, where he was listed in serious but stable condition.

Before last week's incident, felony assault in the 50th Precinct has remained steady compared to last year, according to NYPD data, with 37 reported incidents through the first week of April, compared to 36 the year before.

Crime as a whole is up nearly 9 percent compared to last year, with the biggest jumps coming from rape (up 40 percent) and grand larceny auto (up 33 percent).
