LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Cheers for Hochul HEAT plan

Posted

To the Editor:

Environmental stewards with roots in the NW Bronx find hope and connection in nature’s generosity. Volunteers work together to reciprocate and give back to nature.

This hopefulness is expanded with the news that Governor Hochul has included parts of the NY HEAT (Home Energy Affordable Transition) Act in the State of the State policy agenda. Thank you for working to end consumer funded fracked gas pipeline expansion while lowering consumer energy bills.

In early 2022, volunteers from the Riverdale Park Community Group surveyed 100 residents and found that 82 percent of respondents strongly agreed, agreed or were neutral on the necessity of access to electric vehicle charging stations.

This sentiment is reflected in legislation that must be included in the NYS Assembly’s one-house budget. As we look at the possible extreme weather that 2024 might bring to the Bronx, The Climate Superfund Act sponsored by Jeffrey Dinowitz must be passed to provide community resilience programs funded by the corporations that have driven climate change.

Stewards of our future call on Speaker Heastie to push for the passage of these initiatives this session.
