Angelica Concert: "Sanctuary"

Posted by angelicavoices

Angelica Women’s Chamber Choir, directed by Marie Caruso, will present Sanctuary in Irvington, NY, on Saturday, June 16th. The program explores music that seeks refuge from life's turbulence, a quest common to many cultures and eras. Included in the program are medieval songs "O Virgo splendens" from the Llibre Vermell de Montserrat, and "Nobilis Humilis," a twelfth-century Irish chant; "Ts’mindao Gmerto," a Georgian hymn; renaissance pieces by Palestrina and Victoria; "Down in the River to Pray," a traditional American folk hymn; "Lauda 23," a stunningly plaintive piece by contemporary composer Gavin Bryars; and "Even When He Is Silent," by Kim André Arnesen, based on words found written on a wall in a concentration camp after World War II.
