LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

All you need to do is go and vote

To the editor:

As we approach the 2018 New York state senate primary, held this year on Thursday, Sept. 13, there are two facts that might stir voters in our area.

In 2012, the federal government moved the federal primary from September to June in order for there to be more time for voters, including the military, to vote.

The New York State Democratic Party was willing to move the state primary, the Republican Party was not.

The result? Two primaries and low voter turnout.

In the 2014 state senate primary, 14,219 Democratic voters cast ballots, out of about 94,000 registered and active voters.

By my math, fewer than 16 percent of Democratic voters went to the polls. Not good! We can’t complain if we don’t show up.

If you think that change is needed in New York state politics, that in fact there is a wave of change on the local level, across the country that is being led by committed young candidates, vote for Alessandra Biaggi.

If you think all is well in New York State, then vote for Sen. Klein.

But vote! Riverdale can determine the outcome of this election.
