A child shall lead them

To the editor:

Words are inadequate to describe how proud I feel for the organizers of The March For Our Lives. That they were mainly teenagers makes their courage and tenacity even more amazing.

The stereotype of people their age is being soldered to their cell phones and caring more about their social media presence than anything else.

These young people have completely destroyed that notion.

The Parkland students “woke” the nation to the fact that something must and can be done about mass shootings. Unlike the adults who run the government, these brave young people are not afraid of the NRA.

Mass shooting after mass shooting, we expressed outrage to those who seek them. The student activism has already brought changes such as some major companies pulling away from the NRA as well as the Florida legislature passing bills to raise the legal age for buying a rifle and requiring a three-day waiting period for all gun sales.

Although that’s not enough, it’s a huge move for Florida, which is known to be a gun-loving state.

These young people have galvanized a nation to stand up to the gun manufacturers and the NRA. Hugs and praises for them all.

Pardon me for paraphrasing as well as using Isaiah 11:6 out of context, but the words are so fitting here: “And a little child shall lead them.”
